I just read this term today. First there was “opting out”: women like me who left vibrant careers to stay home full time with their children. Then, “opting in”: these same women who, for a variety of reasons, are ready to re-enter the workforce. Now, “opting different”: I think this term best describes the women this blog is hoping to reach, and my fellow butterflies as we make sense of our own journey beyond the playgroup.
While our children are in school, we have a precious window of space to think about who we want to be, what we want to do. We have some time to experiment, to try on something that we always dreamed about but never thought we could do.
Maybe its only a seed of an idea: a newly discovered talent at creating birthday cakes, an unrequited desire to write or dance or act or paint, or a burning need to make a difference. Maybe its a reinvention of a former life: a corporate executive starts a stationary business, a physical therapist becomes a pediatric horse therapist, a bank teller slings coffee.
What will it be for you?
